DM-199: Type 1 Diabetes
The clinical problem with Type 1 diabetes is the need for multiple daily insulin injections to lower elevated blood glucose as the body lacks the insulin producing beta cells located in the pancreas. DiaMedica believes that long term treatment of Type 1 diabetes requires immune therapy, beta cell therapy and improved glucose control.

A recent study with the chronic administration of DM-199 significantly delayed the autoimmune attack, preserved beta cell mass and demonstrated a 12-fold increase in circulating C-peptide levels in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) animal model.
This is significant as the primary end-point in most Type 1 diabetes clinical trials is the C-peptide level.
