DM-204 (humanized monoclonal antibody)
DiaMedica’s monoclonal antibody (mAb) is a unique and highly differentiated approach to inhibiting the activity of GSK3B, a key enzyme implicated in several diseases including diabetes. DM-204 induces activation of a critical signaling pathway, which the Company believes results in the specific and profound downstream inhibition of GSK3B.
In a recent preclinical head-to-head Type 2 diabetes study, DM-204 outperformed market approved therapies, by dramatically reducing blood sugar with the added benefit of reduced blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The effect on blood pressure was so dramatic that it positions DM-204 as a new treatment for hypertension.
DiaMedica’s main focus for DM-204 is currently on Type 2 diabetes and hypertension. The Company believes that a mAb with potent dual capabilities to simultaneously reduce blood glucose and blood pressure could replace the currently prescribed combination therapies of anti-diabetic and anti-hypertensive drugs. The company is also investigating the effects of DM-204 in cancer and anti-infective studies. Furthermore, due to the chemical make up of the antibody, it could be administered as little as once-a-month. This would allow the commercial potential for DM-204 to fundamentally change the current treatment regimen for Type 2 diabetics.
DiaMedica is also investigating DM-204's potential to treat various cancers and its ability to act as a anti-infective.
