DM-99/199: Type 2 Diabetes
DM-99 is a naturally produced protein that DiaMedica has shown to have therapeutic potential for type 2 diabetes. This protein, linked further down the nerve signal pathway, has demonstrated encouraging results in multiple studies.
In the pre-clinical hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp model, DM-99 increased glucose uptake by over 40% in the first hour. This demonstrated DM-99 may have a dramatic effect on improving insulin sensitivity in people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
DiaMedica conducted a proof-of-concept, single dose, placebo controlled, single-blinded, crossover trial studying 40 patients with type 2 diabetes to examine the effects of DM-99. The trial's primary endpoint showed a statistically significant reduction of blood sugar levels of between 18% and 48% in type 2 diabetic patients following the consumption of a meal. As well, a sequence effect between period 1 and period 2 was observed during this study.

DiaMedica is developing DM-199, an improved recombinant protein version of DM-99.
